January 8

Welcome to the eighth day of our unique bible study, Listing Your Way Through the Bible.

January 8, 2011: Today's readings are Genesis 20, 21, and 22, and Matthew 7. Here are some lists for the reader to contemplate. If you are pressed for time, consider completing just 1 or 2 lists.

Genesis 20:
  • Briefly list the events that occurred between Abraham and King Abimelech regarding Sarah.
  • List Abraham's excuses for lying to the King.
  • List all the gifts the King gave to Abraham.
Genesis 21: God gives Sarah a son, Isaac, and laughter.
  • List what Sarah and Abraham do to Hagar, the mother of Abraham's other son
  • In verses 22-34, list briefly everything that Abraham does.
Genesis 22: This is the first time in the Bible that the word "love" appears (verse 2).
  • List God's instructions to Abraham in verse 2.
  • Note anything that you think resembles the Passover or Crucifixion story in the New Testament.
  • In verse 5 and verse 8, list what Abraham told his servants and what he told his son.
  • In verse 12, list what the angel told Abraham.
  • List all the blessings the Lord will bestow on Abraham because he obeyed the Lord.
Matthew 7:

Draw two vertical lines down the center of the page. Label the left column "Topics," the center column "Man's Motives," and the right column "God's Motives."
  • List these topics in the left column: judging, persistence in finding God, goodness & mercy, way to heaven, fruitful lives, and building on a solid foundation
  • From the reading, list the information that applies to the center and right columns
