January 10

Welcome to Listing Your Way Through the Bible, our unique bible study based on making lists as we work through daily readings.

January 10, 2011: The readings for today are: Genesis 25 & 26 and Matthew 9:1-17. Here are some lists for the reader to contemplate while reading.

Genesis 25:
  • Draw a vertical line down the center of the page. Label the left column "Esau" and the right column "Jacob.
  • List descriptions of each of Abraham's sons, including:
    • who is the oldest
    • who will serve the other
    • the meaning of their names
    • what happened to their birthrights
Genesis 26:
  • List the blessings the Lord promised if Isaac stayed in Gerar (v. 1-5).
  • List briefly the events between Isaac and Abimelech. Sound familiar? Like father, like son?
  • Draw a vertical line down the center of the page. Label the left column "Wells" and the right column "Description."
  • List the 4 wells mentioned in this chapter and describe the circumstances surrounding each well.
Matthew 9:1-17:
  • In verses 1-8, list the six things that Jesus told the paralytic.
  • In verses 9-13, list the statements that Jesus made.
  • In verses 14-17, John the Baptist's disciples ask Jesus about fasting, and Jesus replies using three examples.
    • Draw a vertical line a little towards the left side of the paper so that there are two columns, and the right column is larger.
    • In the left column, list each of the three examples Jesus gave.
    • In the right column, list a brief description of each of the examples.
