January 17, 2011: The readings for today are: Genesis 41 and Matthew 13:1-32. Here are some lists for the reader to contemplate while reading.
Genesis 41:
- List descriptions of the two dreams that Pharaoh had along with Joseph's interpretation.
- List Joseph's suggestion about how to prepare for the famine.
- List all of Pharaoh's gifts and appointments bestowed on Joseph.
- List the names of Joseph's two sons.
Matthew 13:1-32:
- Draw a vertical line down the center of the page and a horizontal line across the page so that four squares are formed.
- In each box, list each of the dispositions of the various seeds that Jesus spoke about in the parable of the seeds in verses 1-9.
- Write out the first part of verse 12.
- Draw two vertical lines down the page. Label the left column "Jesus," the center column "People," and the right column "Disciples."
- In each column, list the appropriate descriptions for Jesus, the people, and his disciples from verses 14-17.
- Describe the hearts, ears, and eyes of the people and the result of that (from verse 15).
- Draw another vertical line down the center of the page and another horizontal line across the page so that four squares are formed.
- In each box, list Jesus's explanation of the various seeds. Your boxes should line up with the first four boxes you listed above.
- Summarize verses 24-29 in one sentence.
