January 12

Welcome to Listing Your Way Through the Bible, our unique bible study based on making lists as we work through daily readings.

January 12, 2011: The readings for today are: Genesis 29 & 30 and Matthew 10:1-23. Here are some lists for the reader to contemplate while reading.

Genesis 29 & 30: This is the story of Jacob's meeting with Rachel and her family.
  • List the particulars of Jacob's meeting with Rachel and note the similarities to Abraham's servant's meeting with Rebekah's family in chapter 24.
  • List the deceit and particulars that Laban played on Jacob.
  • Draw two vertical lines down the page to make 3 columns. Label the left column "Jacob's sons," the center column "Mothers," and the right column "Meaning of Names."
  • List Jacob's sons, their mother, and the meaning of each son's name.
  • List the steps Jacob took to build his flock from Laban's flock. What did he do?
Matthew 10:1-23:
  • In verses 1-15, List Jesus's instructions to his 12 disciples of where to go and what to do.
  • In verses 16-20, list what Jesus told his disciples to do when persecuted by government and religious people.
  • In verses 12-23, list what Jesus told his disciples to do when persecuted by family and public ridicule.
