January 7

Welcome to Listing Your Way Through the Bible, our unique bible study based on making lists as we work through daily readings. If you are pressed for time, consider doing just 1 or 2 lists.

January 7, 2011:  Today's readings are from Genesis 18 & 19 and Matthew 6. Here are some lists for the reader to contemplate while reading.

Genesis 18: Three visitors come to Abraham, and he welcomes them as a generous host.
  • List the things that Abraham did for his visitors.
  • List what the visitor promised concerning Sarah.
  • List Sarah's response.
In Abraham's conversation with the Lord regarding the destruction of Sodom, Abraham is troubled by the possibility of innocent people being destroyed along with the guilty.
  • List all the numbers of innocent people that Abraham suggested be spared starting with the largest and ending with the smallest number.
Genesis 19: This chapter is filled with interesting events. Briefly list a summary of the events that take place:
  • verses 1-29
  • verses 30-38
  • List Lot's two daughters, their sons' names, and the nations that would come from each one.
Matthew 6:
  • Draw two vertical lines down the paper. Label the left column, "Topic," the center column "Man's Motives," and the right column "God's Motives."
  • In the left column, list these topics: charity, prayer, fasting, money, and worry.
  • In the center and right columns, list the appropriate items from the readings.
